Hey. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the NEMA-17 stepper motor (200 steps/rev, 12V, 350mA) is vacuum compatible. If it technically isn't, what is the feasibility of taking the motor apart, drilling vent holes, and replacing regular grease with vacuum grease?
I plan to use it to rotate some quartz rods in a physical vapor deposition vacuum chamber. Depending on the quality of vacuum, I'd either be using evaporation deposition or sputter deposition. I'm shooting for pressures between 10^-3Torr and 10^-6Torr.

It is not tested or rated for that application. However, it is relatively easy to disassemble for modifications.
