I don't even know why this thread isn't locked yet, unless you like coming back to it over and over again to get upset about it. Most of your customers are expecting instant gratification at the lowest possible price and they're going to keep whining until they get it. They don't care about the data or what it might cost anybody else so this thread really isn't doing anybody any good.
Stop crying you guys, can't you see what you're doing to Mike?

Easy there.. the "be excellent to each other" policy applies here just as much as everywhere else in the forums.
We respect people's opinions even if we hold different ones. I'll have the "here's how it looks from our side" conversation a thousand times with that many people who are honestly willing to listen, but arrive at different times.
This thread remains open, as much as anything, to demonstrate that we will stand firm on what we consider the best overall customer service.
People get trained to complain by companies full of middle managers who don't want their names associated with anything negative. I've seen people (in other contexts) openly declare their intent to cause trouble until they get free stuff.
That doesn't work here. We know why we're doing things the way we are, and we know that PT and Ladyada will back us up if necessary. I'm not getting away with something my bosses won't want to hear about, I'm saving them the time and effort of writing these posts themselves. It frees up time to do the things where their talents shine.. designing great hardware and building/steering a company we're all willing to fight for.
We also have a strong, loyal community here in the forums, with a lot of people who've been around long enough to see how these exchanges play out. There's less tendency to generate an echo chamber of complaints these days, and that's reason enough to keep the thread open all by itself. I'm not putting out fires any more, and can engage in legitimate debate when people present their reason for why we should change our policy.
I think I've been able to stake the boundaries around the "well, you just don't know what you're doing" series of arguments, or at least I hope so. I have to be careful to limit the topspin on those.. to me they register as slights against PT, who works hard to understand this stuff and make well-balanced decisions. No craftsman likes to see another craftsman's work dissed, so anybody wants to take a shot at him is gonna have to get through me first.
We know this will be a recurring issue, and as I'm sure I've said before, we get it: nobody likes to pay more when they see a lower-price option that seems to be just as good. It's a subject that deserves to be checked periodically, and there's always the chance that someone will make a point we haven't considered. A few people in the thread have presented ideas respectfully, and we've given those ideas serious thought.
