Howdy. I'm having issues slaving my x0xb0x to my other gear. I'm certain that the midi cable is not the issue, and I also use this gear to master other pieces of kit without issue--so I'm 99.9% positive that these pieces of equipment aren't to blame. Also, it is not--unless I'm incredibly unlucky--the actual MIDI IN port of the x0xb0x. I've already swithed out the original unit, hoping that the problem was just a faulty MIDI in port. I can slave other gear to the x0xb0x without any problems, as well.
I've recently re-uploaded the x0xb0x's OS (firmware version 1.04).
Any ideas? has anyone else had this strange problem?
Thanks,
Charles

If you need a comparison, here are 600dpi scans of my set of PCBs. Everything seems to work, best I can tell. Although I haven't tested MIDI through yet...
Also, you should probably check out the schematic and just use a continuity meter to be sure if MIDI IN to MIDI THROUGH is wired appropriately.

It works now! I checked my i/o board against c0nsumer's (you rock, man--thanks. [p.s. any word on those custom faceplates? ]). I re-heated all of the solder joints associated with the MIDI in and thru jacks. I ended up replaced Q50 as well. There was a solder-bridge between two of its pints--although, in all honesty, I think that I caused it--or perhaps exaggerated an existing bridge--when I reheated its solder joints. Regardless, it works now!
Finally, I can sequence it from my monomachine!
Thanks again!

Charles and crew- I am having issues as well. To avoid repeating, can you guys see my post: "MIDI Sync issue.continues pattern regardless of master"..
Perhaps this is a similar case then?

Hi-
Ok this sounds just like the issues I am currently having.. I really doubt its my MPC causing the MIDI CLOCK/ SYNC issues as stated in my other post..
I had someone put mine together and I am giving it back for them to fix..
So chris.. To get a run down:
1."I checked my i/o board against c0nsumer's"..What were you specifically looking for when checking?
2. "I re-heated all of the solder joints associated with the MIDI in and thru jacks.".. Cool sounds easy enough.
3. "I ended up replaced Q50 as well." Hmm. This does not sound familiar.. Can you go into detail on this, and where its located? Then again I did not build the box. So maybe this is obvious. just trying to get all the info.
4. "There was a solder-bridge between two of its pints--although, in all honesty, I think that I caused it--or perhaps exaggerated an existing bridge--when I reheated its solder joints. Regardless, it works now!"..

1. I was checking the actual etched circuit paths of my I/O board, specifically the paths associated with the MIDI IN and MIDI THRU connectors, against c0nsumer's known-to-be-functional-board. A perenially helpful 'guest' suggested that a very, very small amount of the i/o boards have small errors.floatation wrote:cchocjr wrote:It works now! 2. It is. I should have done that first.
3. Q50 is the location of a transistor associated with MIDI IN. Found on the i/o board to the rear of the MIDI IN jack.
And now a question for you...is there any reason you are not directly sequencing your x0xb0x from your MPC? It seems like this would sidestep the problem altogether--though I certainly understand wanting something to work properly simply because of the principle. But, I don't really plan on using the x0xb0x's sequencer at all. I can control it through my Monomachine and have the same amount of control (i.e. slides, accents, note-off, tranpsose) and then some! (arp's).

Hi-
Thanks for the info, I will pass this along to the guy that put it together and see how it goes. Probably take about two weeks to find out if it works!
As for your question:

I agree that there can be pretty cool things that can be done if I were to use the x0x as a midi module, but I enjoy using the sequencer of x0x. I find that I can get some nice patterns out of it pretty quick using the slides and accents much easier than I would using the MPC.
What is also cool about the x0x is it allows me to see more of what is going on in a sequence and then transfer that over to my 303's. And vice versa..If I have a nice pattern that needs to be adjusted a bit in the 303, I can recreate it on the x0x and then reprogram it into the 303 with the "corrections"..
