Need some help gathering the last few materials

Postby LapaPatrolBoat » Fri Feb 05, 2010 1:30 pm

Hi everyone. I hoping someone can help me with getting the last few pieces of my x0x so i can start trying to put it together. Let me start by saying i have never tried anything like this before and my knowledge on the subject is pretty limited so if what im asking is stupid, i appologize. anyway i'll cut to the chase. I have all the parts needed to start building my x0x except for :
"1MA DUAL POT, 317-2102F-1M"
".047uF POLYESTER, 140-PM2A473K"
"1000uF Elect, 140-XRL10v1000-RC"
and
"4066 CMOS, 512-CD4066BCN"

my question regarding the capacitors is will any capacitor with similar values work? for example the 1000uF capacitor, I have found a similar one on Mouser (http://ca.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Xico ... EIeLJ6E%3d) but it terminates in an Axial in stead of a radial. Is this a problem? would it have any noticable effect on the sound or overall operation of my x0x? the same goes for the .047uF capacitor, mouser seems to have one that as far as i can tell is identical except for the manufacturer part # which is 140-PF2A473K and not 140-PM2A473K which is stated in the BOM.

also, If anyone has a spare set of these parts and wouldnt mind selling them please let me know. I'd really like to get started on this.

those capcitors will work fine, don't get hung up on getting the actual brand of caps listed in the BOM, jsut make sure you get the right type and size. The voltage rating on the caps is teh maximum tollerance, so if you say for example needed a 16v cap and could only find a 25v cap it would be fine to use that as a substitute. It doesnt work the other way around though of coruse, so you cant substitue a 25v cap with a 16v cap.

Fitting an axial will be tricky since its designed to be place horizontally rather than vertically. So if you are going with that i'd recommend you put some insulating tubing on the exposed leg so you can mount it vertical wihtout any issues (this will make sense when you have the axial in your hands).

The 4066 cmos is common so any will work, im assuming its a buffered one since the part number ends in BCN so bear that in mind when looking for an alternative.

Actually, does it matter getting the RoHS cert. parts? I replaced all the obsolete parts with the chemically ones in my bom, but I'm curious. seems some of the replacements were a few mm's larger. The pictures of the boards didn't look like any of the parts were on top of the neighbor parts so I thought I'd be in the clear.
