THanks for the discription 'xlarge'. I was under the impression that the MIDI cable transmitted all the signals. I went out and bought a 6.5mm male to male connector today and got it working. So thanks for clearing that up for me.

But now I have another issue:
Whilst I was doing the testing Im pretty sure the I/O board (the AC supply part) made conntact with the mainboard and shorted out some components. I've since taped the peice of cardboard i used as insulation to the back of the I/O board so it cant move around.
The accent LED is always on. THough the accent function still works when I am in pattern edit mode, just the LED remains on all the time. The LED for the slide function blew so I replaced that and that works fine - as does the slide function. But the biggest issue is that after I make a pattern in the pattern edit function and play it back and all that, as soon as I go to another function e.g. "pattern sync out" or whatever the pattern I just made is no longer there, even if i go back to pattern edit and edit the same location its completely empty. It seems what ever the IC the pattern is stored in has given up - well thats my conclusion. Can anyone offer any help?
I had it working fine, and then this.....

What os are you running?
How are you saving your patterns?

Im using sokkos 1.9.1
I just go to pattern edit press next and cycle through notes 1-16 putting in
Sounds and accents then i press done twice and im ready to go. im pretty sure that's how I've done it in the past

as far as i know everything else works. random is fine and i can mid sync to both ways (master and slave) the only issue is the accent led is always on but the function still works. and the not being able to save anything issue. i tried pressing the done key once only after im finished editing the pattern but nothing happens, and i can't play back. in the sokkos manual it says to push it twice, and that allows me play it back. but once i change function and try play from that location it back it just shows the pattern is composed of rests. it happens like this for nearly any memory bank

are there any other functions in sokkos that it memorizes
like the tempo or tracks or midi channel

its possible the eeprom is bad

the driver chip for the accent led is probably bad as well

I can confirm that the xoxbox does memorize the tempo that it used last before it was turned off.
It also recalls what midi channel it used.
I messed around around with track edits, I cant access any patterns i edited cause it doesnt recall them as soon as you choose another function but i did put together a track from random banks and note which pattern was being accessed from the LED's. I can finish a track and then choose another function e.g. random and then go back and edit the same track. It recalls the same sequence of patterns i formed into a track. BUT as soon as I turn it off and back on again, the track i made previously doesn't exist.

So i'd possibly require the IC2 'eeprom' and the IC8 '74AC595'? Does the processor seem fine?

its possible the micro has a bad pin1
but its not too likely
if you have a scope you can look for it toggling

definitely try a new ic8
and you might as well try a new ic2
as its pretty cheap and its easy to swap out
although if its storing the tempo and midi channel
then at least some of the blocks must be ok

sweet as. ill get on to ordering those parts. what's the easiest way to replace ic8! i had that soldered straight in. i was thinking i could cut the pins of the old ic as close as possible to the chip itself and the soilder an ic socket straight to those pins and plug in the chip. ic2 is fine cause i used a socket.
i think i have the original tech transplant micro somewhere ill see if that makes a difference.
ill let you know how i go. thanks for your help 'guest'

the easiest way to get ic8 out
is to cut the pins
and then heat up the pads
and pull each pin out one at a time
you can then use a solder sucker or solder wick
to clean the holes out
