Programming The ATmega162 Microcontroller

Postby O.W » Tue May 01, 2012 6:08 am

Hi,

I'm new to programming, but I want to know how to program the Hex file onto the ATmega162. I have a PICKIT2 and a demo-board, could I use this?

If not, could someone please suggest the hardware and software that I would require in order to program my own ATmega162's with the Hex file?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

i'm not an electronics guy, neither am i a microcontroller geek
but as a "mortal" i managed to reprogram my x0xb0x quite easily
what i have:
1) WinAVR (IDE + AVRGCC compiler)
2) c0ntr0l app (to flash firmware)

that's assuming your x0x DOES have the bootloader on it
We are here too: irc.freenode.net >>> #x0xb0x
..:: c0nb0x v1.00 ::.. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=29282 (new control app - win/osx)

PICkit is for MicroChip PIC micros, the x0x uses Atmel AVR so that is no good.

I recommend the Atmel programmer (AVRisp mk2) http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Atm ... VpH%252b5O

You can use AVRdude (which comes with WinAVR) or Atmel's software (AVR studio)

Thank you for the replies!

Do I need a demo board with the AVRisp mk2, or any other hardware?

I don't actually have a x0x but I want to program the chip with the firmware before I begin building one.

you need to connect the isp to the micro
and supply 5v to the micro
but you can just do that on a protoboard

Do you know of any schematics for the protoboard?

Just go off the data sheet for the 162, all the pins are labeled. The only parts you need are the resonator
