Yeah they look like tantalums, at least they are certainly polarised (edit: or are they? Seems they should be blue, mine are brown. photo below).

Yes, those are tantalums. Don't worry about the color; they come in various colors anyway.

I searched for this issue, but didn't come up with any dedicated thread, do you know of one?
I am starting in on a Willzyx kit and he sent me a 2SC2291 labeled as:
C2291

I don't think so. The fake ones so far all had been stamped "89C" or "59C". I've seen only the latter myself.
