Xoxbox frozen or doesn't switch on

Post by hertek »

Hello, I come to you because I just bought a xoxbox (Machine Mode). It is not new, but it belonged to a friend. I think the problem come from transport (post). When I received it, it does not lit. I opened it and a wire was disconnected. Now it turns on but it remains frozen. It is never the same LED that lights up.
I tested the power part, it seems to me correct. I checked some welding because they are not pretty ...
I ask your help, someone who speaks French if possible, otherwise we will manage
I can send it to a trusted person, if it is possible ...

Thank you for your help.
Romain

what mode are you trying to start it in?

also, see if you can upload the firmware to it?

All mod remains frozen (if i understand your question)

I tried to understand how to reset the firmware but I'm stuck.

:?

I tested the power part, but I have a doubt for that : " that it ranges from about 5.25 to 5.75VDC" "What is most important is that it can be set to less than 5.3V and higher than 5.4V.

Otherwise, I'm 5.33V on J4

The first thing you could try is retouch all the soldering joints with a soldering iron, even if this does not solve the problem; at least you would have eliminated any bad soldering joints that may exist within the unit. As I get the impression from your description, that the unit is not well soldered.

Another thing you could try is to swap out the MCU with a MCU from a known working unit or buy one from some where, this will allow you to verify whether you have a faulty MCU.

The 5.33V and the 12V is used in the synthersizer(analog section), would not effect the MODE.

I'd first check if you're getting +5V for the whole digital side. Please measure between pin 20 and pin 40 of the processor (pin 20 is ground).

I don't know if you have access to an oscilloscope. Things are naturally much easier to troubleshoot with one.

Was this a pre-assembled xoxbox or was this a kit?

Alternatively I could fix it for you. I'm doing some service work for Mode Machines (which of course also means you would have to ship the xoxbox to Germany).

I toured the soldering. I think it is a kit, saw the beauty ofsoldering ... lol
I will test between pin 20 and pin 40 for the +5V
I'll let you know.
I also asked my question on the French forum Anafrog...easier for me with the French ;-)
But, thx a lot for your help
