Unfortunately, I have to bother you guys with my problem. And I am sorry for that, but I'm clueless here and I hope someone finds the time to help me out.
Today I finished my x0xb0x, plugged it in and hit the power button.
At first everything seems to work OK, all the leds light up for a couple of seconds and after that i'm trying 'Keyboard' mode and 'Random' mode to create some sounds.
I noticed that all what I get is just some 'clicks' and that it doesn't generate different notes at all. It's all the same sound, whatever key your playing.
All the pots seems to be working as it should (tune, cut off, etc..), all the leds are ok and the sequencer seems to react as it should.
I'm affraid that my problem is in the analog section. Perhaps the VCO? I remember that during one of the headphone tests I kind of got the same sound.
Can someone give me some advice what to do?
And there seems to be another strange problem going on but this happens very randomly.
When I power up the x0xb0x it sometimes freezes with ALL the leds on. You can't do anything.
If I just disconnect the x0xb0x from power and put it back on (sometimes a couple of times) it just works again.
I hope that someone can help me out. I recorded the sound so you can actually hear my problem.
Generated the sound in 'Random' mode

Re: Weird clicks
very weird
is the vco uber high, or is the vca-env crazy, or something else..
try to probe at the waveform switch, see if you can hear saw and square at "sane" frequencies, you can do this with headphones if you don't have other equipment

Re: Weird clicks
Thank you for your quick reply.
And excuse me, but I think i'm confusing you. I forgot to mention that i'm turning knobs in my example to give you people an overall idea what works and what not.
The first 7 seconds of the mp3 is what I hear normally and it stays that way (without any cut off, res, env etc..).
I did what you ask and probed the switch (like described in the VCO chapter at the manual) and get the same sound but only a bit lower in volume.
Btw, I have a multimeter so you can ask me to measure things if necessary.

Re: Weird clicks
Here is the sound the x0xb0x makes in random mode without turning knobs.
First 0:27 seconds suppose to be sawtooth, the other half is in squarewave mode.
http://www.cycletagging.com/clicks2.mp3
The freezing with all the leds on isn't really a problem anymore.
This only happens when i'm booting the x0x in random mode, is this normal?
So my only problem is the weird clicks, so I assume the problem is located in the analog section (I think the VCO section).
Only I wish I knew how to debug this problem.

Re: Weird clicks
so, check all components in the VCO section, see for wrong component values and wrong orientation

Re: Weird clicks
I don't actually know what to measure, i'm not an expert.
Though, I measured the voltages of most of the VCO parts. All seems to be OK.
Here are the results:
D31 11.79 V
D30 3.25 V
D25 6.50 V
Q28 11.79, 8V
Q27 11.12 V
Q25 11V, 8V
Q24 11V
Q26 5.33, 11.50, 4.68, 8.31, 5.30 V
Q8 8.10, 6.88, 9.12V
R105 8.13V
switch 3th pin = 6.88 v
IC11: pin 1 = 0.74V
pin 2 = 11.50 V
pin 3 5.333V
pin 4 = 0V
pin 5 = 4.61V
pin 6 = 4.67V
pin 7 = 4.67V
pin 8 = 11.79V
IC9: pin 1 = 5.333V
pin 2 = 5.333V
pin 3 = 0V
pin 4 = 0V
pin 5 = 5.333V
pin 6 = 0V
pin 7 = 5.333V
pin 8 = GND
pin 9 = 0V

pin 12 = 5.333V
pin 13 = 0V
pin 14 = 0V
pin 15 = 5.333V
pin 16 = 5.333V
I'm getting a bit worried now because I really don't know what to do.

Re: Weird clicks
i meant.. check if you've put some wrong resistors/capacitors or other components, and check for proper orientation on the diodes/transistors..

Re: Weird clicks
I checked for proper orientations on the diodes/transistors many times.
But I found something on this forum that might me interesting for my problem.
On this thread: http://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?t=935 some guy can't get the saw working on his x0x.
guest gives a list of his (correct) voltages and I noticed a slight difference between his and mine.
his:
IC11
pin1 4.57v
pin2 5.333v
pin3 5.333v
Q26
pin1 5.333v
pin2 5.333v
pin3 4.8v
pin4 8.18v dc with 5.6vpp of triangle wave
pin5 5.24v to 5.30v depending upon note selected and tune pot
mine:
IC11
pin 1 0.74V
pin 2 11.50 V
pin 3 5.333V
Q26
pin 1 5.333V
pin 2 11.50V
pin 3 4.68V
pin 4 8.31V
pin 5 5.30 V
Notice the double voltage at both pin2!
Which component is responsable for the voltages to these ic's?
And are the voltages of 'guest' correct? Can someone confirm that?

Re: Weird clicks
that part of IC11 is responsible for generating the sawtooth
i'm not an expert, but my nose tells me that the weird voltage on pin2 might be causing the sawtooth to be generated either uber slow or uber fast, thus it isn't very audiable
i don't know what else to tell you, if you have a soldering iron - maybe rehit the joints of the components in the VCO..

Re: Weird clicks
Thank you for your help.
I think you are right, so I checked for (cold) solder points, and re-checked the resistors for the correct values checking the colours.
Then I noticed that R103 had the wrong colour values and soon I realised that x0xsh0p swapped the resistor bags with 220K and 220 Ohm.
So when R103 should be 220K it had 220 Ohm instead.
Most annoying thing is that I need to remove all the 220K and 220 Ohm resistors on the IO and main board and swap places.
Even more annoying is that I need 3 extra more 220K resistors and shops are closed because of Easter.
But heck, I hope this will solve my problem and I learned to always check colours first.
x0xsh0p did a very bad job on this order anyway, more parts were excluded or were not right.
I hope this are the only resistors that were swapped otherwise I'll have to prepare for some more searching...
I'll keep you updated.
Thanks again.

Re: Weird clicks
that would explain..
i don't quite like those resistor color codes, so i'd rather measure them with the multimeter to be sure
hopefully after you fix the 220 and 220K resistors the x0x might work properly

Re: Weird clicks
Well that did the trick! Bought some extra 220K resistors and swapped the 220 Ohm and 220K on the main and IO board and all is working fine!
Thanks!
Btw, your VCO tuner works just awesome!
