Hello
Would it be possible to wire up a switch to bypass the knob? Once its tuned, you can turn it off, to avoid that highly annoying 'grab the wrong knob when twiddling' thing. But then if it goes out of tune you can switch it back in and tune it, then turn it off again.
Seems a good idea to me but im a complete noob.
Cheers
Ben

Re: Tuning knob bypass switch.
yeah, i've also accidentally grabbed the tuning knob a bunch of times
so i removed the cap and now it's hard to grab it by accident

i think you just have to learn not to touch it, you dont remove guitar strings if you play them wrong

Thats a fair enough comment. is bloody annoying 5 minutes in.
On a wanting to learn basis tho, is it not possible for technical reasons?

i guess so, because when it's centered the resistance will be ~50%
if you bypass it - it'll be 0%
phono: in fact, my x0x is open right now and i rarely close it
the cap is here on my desk so i can put it back on if i want

Re: Tuning knob bypass switch.
actually a lot of guitar player use "damping" techniques so you wouldn't hear the wrong strings they touch..phono wrote:i think you just have to learn not to touch it, you dont remove guitar strings if you play them wrong
You could just disconnect the tune pot, bridge the connections (not GND) and put the internal tuning to a steady position..
but than again... WHY??
there's a reason the tuning pot is variable..

Cheers.
At the risk of further lollage and exposing even more of my ignorance about such matters
To darf-fader, I thought a switch to bypass the tuning knob, so you can tune it now and again, but it doesnt work most of the time, was a good idea. Didnt mean to completely remove it! Ive seen the centre detent 'mod' which you do occasionally have to retune internally. My idea seemed the best of both worlds.
I also know very little about electronics so its probably a daft question, but id at least like to know why if so.
cheers all.

Re: Tuning knob bypass switch.
what I do for a lot of guys is replace R118 with 1.5M ohms to limit the range of the tune control to +/-50 cent instead of +/-700 cents.
You're always going to need a bit of adjustment as the tuning of these things will shift so I wouldn't' get rid of it altogether, so if you play live and always play in tune it's a very good compromise.
