I'd love to mod my x0xb0x for overdrive.
My guess for a workable overdrive mod is to change the value of R62, and add a variable resistor. In doing this C17 may, or may not need changing as well.
Can anyone confirm this, and perhaps give some more details?
It would be cool if we could make the accent trigger the overdrive. I am also going to hazard a guess that wiring up a diode and 47K resistor to the pot, similar to the way that D24 and R46 are wired to the resonance pot might do the trick, but this is just short of a completely random guess. It might do horrible things... or no-things.

varying r62 will increase the signal into the vcf
you can experiment with different values by using
aligator clips to attach an new resistor across it
as long as you dont decrease the resistor value below
80k you wont notice any sound difference due to c17
attenuating the signal
if you find you need a 10k or so just increase c17
to 10uF
as far as creating an accent trigger for it
its not that easy
you will need to use a 4066 to couple the
new resistor in when the accent is struck
you can take the accent signal off of the
collector of q35

So Jonnay, have you done the mod, and how did it work out? I heard an mp3 from you and I liked the x0xb0x sound you have, did it involve a mod of this type, or did you run it through some other processor? It sounded kind of stereo, so maybe it was something else?Jonnay wrote:That was me..
anyway, I'd be interested to know of anyone that has done an overdrive mod and how it worked out.

Hell man, I haven't even had a chance to crack er open and replace the voltage regulator.. And I need to get on ordering a new firmware... topo much to do.. not enough time.
The distortion is just the classic over-driven mackie distortion. I run the monitor output into a new channel, and overdrive the BANNED out of it.
Sometimes I'll put an echo or a chorus on it. That would explain the stereo effect.
