Do you have info on the x0xio mod? I'd like to see if I can self-source and print my own PCB for this. Thanks!

Hey im not on the list

I have you down! This list on the forum is not updated yet.
I have about 36 people confirmed so far. I need 50 people to do the run, it looks we will meet that in the next week without much trouble.

I won't be releasing the layout and other drawings at least for a couple runs (just like the I/O mod). It will only be sold as a kit.

I'm still on schedule to get these kits out. Currently there are (44) people confirmed ready to buy. I need a minimum of 50 people to do the run. I still need to contact a few people from the list. I will also be posting an email to tha AH and sdiy mailing lists and submitting a blog to matrixsynth as a reminder. I'm still on schedule to request payment on February 20. I will be sending out paypal requests to everyone who has already responded with email address and desired kit info. If you want a kit and haven't contacted me please PM me here or send an email to briancastro_at_gmail. I expect to have about 60 people confirmed ready to buy as the Feb 20 date approaches. As for testing and preparaing kits I've been locked up in the lab a good amount of time the past few weeks building and testing the final design (yes this is the 'final' final design!). Everything is working great. I've added a few great new features and eliminated some other less usefull features and also eliminated some of the overly epxensive parts. Once I receive payment from everybody that will be on the final list I will be ordering the long leadtime parts. I expect to ship kits 6 weeks after all parts are ordered. Parts will be ordered Feb 23. I plan to ship kits on April 6.

Below is the final feature set of the full x0xi0 kit:

The full kit is progressing. I've starting sending out paypal request for payments. If you're on the list you should receive one within the next week.
If you're not on the list but want a kit you need to let me know now. I don't know if there will be another run after this one. I have to get at least 50 people to meet the price point so it will be a while before I will do another run. There's about 46 people confirmed as of now so this run is ready to go. I figure they'll be a few last minute orders to get to 50 kits. I finished all the testing and made some very minor changes to the layout of the top pcb. The pcb's are going out this weekend. The longest lead time parts are 7 weeks so I will be ordering those first and will ship the kits when all the parts are in. The kits include everything necessary to complete the mod, including pcb's, new panels, overlays, all parts, hardware and wire. I'm currently working on the documentation including the install manual and a block diagram so you can all see exactly what it's all about...

What was the price again? I was thinking of doing this a year from now (I still have to build the "basic" x0xb0x which I don't expect to get time for until months from now)...but if you won't be doing another run, I may be tempted to purchase this in advance.

Thanks.

Hi,

The full kit is $475. This includes the rear panel and top panel mods. It's very extensive and uses high quality parts.
I will definitely do a 2nd run if I can get a group of people together - I'm just not sure how long that would take or if I would ever get enough people on the list.

Ok I've sent out just about all the paypal requests. If you're on the list and haven't received one send me a PM or email. If you weren't on the original list and want to buy a kit contact me. Thanks everyone who has already paid. I have already started placing orders for the longest lead time parts. I will start to upload pics of the various custom parts and assemblies as they come in and as I work on the Install Manual.

Just an update. I have had 32 people pay to this point so thank everyone for being prompt. There's another few people with payments pending. I've been able to buy about 80% of the parts including the long lead-time stuff. I need to sell 38 kits to break even so if you're on the list and received a payment request please keep me updated on payment status if you haven't already. As expected some people had to back out so there are about 9 kits available out of the total of 50. If anyone is interested in one just let me know. Once the parts come in I will be updating this space with info and pictures of how it's all going.

most of the off-the-shelf parts came today. I will be sorting them during spurts of free time over the next few weeks while waiting for the custom parts to arrive. I expect the last parts to arrive on April 24 and will be shipping the kits very shortly after that.

not too much to update this weekend. Everything is still on schedule.

- There's one potentiometer for which about half my order was backordered without a delivery date but I expect them to arrive within 4 weeks.
- The main guts of the kit included the pcb's and panels are still a couple weeks away from arriving but are still on schedule. I ordered the machined top panels black anodized to leave the option open to silkscreen them instead of doing the overlay. It could save me money and look more professional. When the panels arrive I will make the decision of silkscreen vs overlay when I see the quality and look of the anodized parts.
- Some of the Sifam control knobs came in. They look great. The main controls and bank/mode knobs all match and look very nice.

I'm continuing to work on the Install manual. It's busy work but has to be done!
I haven't started to sort parts yet, I'll probably get a head start on it this week.

another update.
The pots I mentioned above are back in stock so it's not going to be a show stopper.
The rear panels and overlays arrived today for those of you with the full kit.
The top panels and the pcb's are both scheduled to arrive early so I'm patiently awaiting those.
The main milestone right now is to get the top panels, evaluate them, and quickly decide to send them out for silckreen or order overlays. This will happen right at March 30. Turn-around time is (3) weeks for silkscreen or (7) days for overlays. Aside from packing up kits this will be the pacing item.

I'm playing around with the prototype with final PCB and all and it's ridiculous. I think you guys will be more than happy. Putting all that control into that small box is really great. Stacking the PCB's is the only way to achieve it, even surface mount parts wouldn't have allowed for the density of controls going on here. On the top panel there's (26) potentiometers and (16) switches for control over the analog synth, (23) buttons for control of the sequencer, and 46 LED indicators in all. On the rear panel there's (15) input/output jacks, full MIDI and DINSYNC, USB, slide switch, and (3) toggle switches and (2) potentiometers for the overdrive section. All this control in a box that's about 11" x 8". It's pretty intense.
