safety of VCF in mod?

Post by evilxsystems »

So after hearing #173's vcf in demos, I have a burning desire to slave my pro-one to the x0x and run the output into the x0x filter...but I actually have screwed up synths before using their VCF in...I messed up my MS-20 pretty good by running a signal that was accidentally too hot into it and the thing never sounded the same....would it be safer to use a pot on the VCF in to control the signal? So you could turn it up until you got the desired level?

Use the volume pot on the output of the device you are feeding into the VCF to contol the level of the signal. Turn it down all the way and increase to desired level.

Even if you add a pot to the VCF input on the x0xb0x. You will end up with the same accident if you forget to turn it all the way down and run a hot signal into the VCF. :(

Or maybe I'm missing something here.
Do you have devices that are not controllable on their outputs?
Then you could feed that signal into a mixer channel to attenuate the signal down.
