Another Error "Failed to find any MIDIsense Boards"

Post by gaarie »

Hey, I'm having problems with my midisense. I did a bang up job on the soldering, so we can rule this one out.

i bought a e-mu 1x1 at fry's for $30. the drivers are installed. i am using a 12V power supply though i have also tried a 9V battery. when i have the 12V in, the lights on the board are lit up even when the switch is turned off. with the 9V, they work how they are meant to. when I run the midisense software, i get the error: "Failed to find any MIDIsense Boards".

At one point while using the 9V, it got past the searching stage and moved onto the connecting stage but eventually gave me the same error.

When turned on, the bi-color LED gives an orange briefly (expected?) then moves to a flashing green, even when not connected (also expected?).

I have put a lot of work into building this and the enclosure. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

sounds like its -mostly- working

are you sure you are running the correct official drivers for your MIDI device? in the MIDIsense software the midi ports should say "E-MU 1x1" or something, not "USB Audio Device"

also, check your switch..the midisense should be off when the switch is to the left

Yup. The official drivers are installed. I triple checked all of my soldering points and they all look solid with no shorts. The MIDIsense SHOULD be off, yes, when the switch is left. When the MIDI cables are plugged in, the lights are on when the switch is on or off, however. it only happens with 12V though. With the 9V battery, it looks as though it works as expected. I do not have any reliable fresh 9V batteries though, so I mostly use the 12V power supply from an old Lynksis router. When I search for a MIDIsense with the software, I see the "out lights" on the E-MU light up. So I guess that would be the software looking for the MIDIsense.

Thanks for the speedy reply. BTW, did you receive that extra kit in the mail?

I built my computer. It has an AMD Athlon 3800+ (2.4GHz) and 1 GB of RAM. All of its specs were well over the req'd.

np, just wondering if its a mac or winbox. do you mind running a debug viewer like dbgview.exe and copypasting the output when you try to connect a bunch of times? im pretty sure i know whats up...

hmm. when the packets are sent, do you get a quick blink of red on the MIDIsense MIDI activity LED? that lets me know if the MIDIsense is getting the messages.

can you take a good photo of the top and bottom of your midisense? it sounds like theres a hardware problem here! :(

Sure thing. I was not ruling my soldering skills as the problem earlier, merely stating that I checked them. If there are any specific areas that you would like to see in detail, let me know.

DOH!

The midi cables were reversed!

Silly me. I apologize for consuming your time with something so simple. I took the writing on the board as a literal meaning. I tried it once before starting this thread but it did not work then. maybe it was another temporary problem.

I plan on using a peizo transducer as an input. any suggestions for resistors (if any)?

hehehe :) i was thinking it was something like that. actually the "its powered when the switch is off" is what made me thinkin' but... i was also thinking maybe miswired ports

everything working now?

i havent actually tested piezos...they're a bit funky ... and they dont work like variable resistors so i dont think they'll work :(

Aye Carumba, eh?

The software is working ok now. It loses the connection to the MIDIsense a lot, but I will head over to the "lost connection to MIDIsense" thread and do some troubleshooting.

Uh oh. that would be bad if they don't work. The input is recognized fairly accurately. I am building an electronic drum set you see. I will mess around with them and tell you my discoveries.

Sorry again for your time.

~Brian

Edit: I updated to 1.2 Firmware and everything works perfectly. I am having good luck with configuring the peizo as "Channel Pressure" so far. I will keep you updated.

ok please do. again i havent played with piezos, so im not sure. they may work, but i dont know. thats why i dont have them in my list of compatible sensors

no problem. its a still-in-progress kit! :)
