Using 4 AA's in larger mint tin

I looked up the specs for the LT1302 used in the latest version and the max input is 10V, so using 4 AA batteries in series shouldn't be an issue. I just wanted to ask if there's anything else about the circuit that won't allow it to work at 6V vs 3V.

The 10v spec is an absolute maximum that the chip will tolerate. As a boost converter, it will function best with an input < 5v.
Using 4 AA NiMH rechargeable cells in series will give you 4.8v. And NiMH cells perform better than alkalines with high current loads too.

You could also use the AA's in a series-parallel configuration, where you'll still have an output of 3V but, because the 2 pairs are connected together in parallel, you'll (on paper, anyway) have twice as much capacity as just a single pair of batteries. You might also try the same with "C" or "D" cells...lots of possibilities!

6V might harm some electronics. If you do this, do not give it away as a gift or sell it.
Some folks have build 4AA (nonrechargable) but used a diode as a voltage drop down to safer 5.5v territory.

Personally, I would go with a 3 battery holder, and then you still have room in the tin for a tiny USB A to USB-B micro cable.
