Can I wire an Ipod cable directly to the boost?

Post by skajam »

Of course I can, why the heck not!

This way I can just have a short pigtail rather than toting my cable around everywhere.

Has anyone attempted this, are the wires inside the OEM cable color coded or do I have to test continuity on each one.

Are there any dangers associated with this? E.g. applying voltage to the wrong terminal in the ipod and frying it.

they ought to be colorcoded white, green, red, black. thats USB standard, but who knows if they follow it. you can look online to see the pinout.

Did you ever end up doing this? I'm interested in trying this. So would i just solder the wires into the corresponding holes in the PCB? Any tips on this skajam (or ladyada)

the green and white wires go in the middle holes, either way is fine
the black wire goes to ground
the red wire goes to +5V

Wait, technically it wouldn't matter if i put the green and white cables in at all right? They transfer data while black and red charge? Since Im only interested in charging i can just solder the red and black and just fill in the two middle holes with solder instead of bothering with stripping and soldering the other two. Am I right?
