Chip heats up when I install batteries -

Post by torsion »

I am hoping you can help by noticing if I did something wrong in this build (see attached pics). This is my second MintyBoost (v3.0) kit and I had no problems with the first. When testing before placing the USB connector on the board, the chip get very hot very quickly.

Thanks.

Yours truly,

Torsion

The photos are a little fuzzy, but from what I can see, it looks OK. The most common cause of overheating with no load attached would be to install the chip backwards, but yours looks right.

Carefully compare this board with your working one and see if you can detect any differences in component placement or orientation.

Yep,I did that and can't find anything wrong. I read an earlier post that suggested a bad chip could be the problem. Could that be it? I'll try to get better pics up. And thanks much!

We can try replacing the chip. If you contact [email protected] with a link to this thread we'll send one out to you.
