solar minty boost performance ?

Post by sharberger »

Last summer I built some analog data loggers using Arduino, adafruit data sheild and powered by 4W solar panel through adafruit USB solar LiPo charger and Minty boost.
Initially they worked fine, including staying charged for extended periods in the field.
Recently when bringing them out for use we noticed that they are triggering continuously when plugged into the minty boost.
Powering them via USB from the laptop results in normal operation.
We get the same results with two different devices and two different charger/minty boost supplies. We've also tried a variety of freshly charged LiPo batteries.

What would be the best method to trouble shoot this issue.
I need to get these back in the field. Also have built several more and would like to avoid this condition if possible.

Thanks

Powering them via USB from the laptop results in normal operation.
Is that via the USB port on the charger, or directly to the Arduino?
We've also tried a variety of freshly charged LiPo batteries.
And what were the results?

I'd start my measuring the voltages at the Load terminal, the Battery terminal, the solar Input (while in pull sun) and the Minty output.

USB direct to Arduino

Same- continuous triggering and data record

Thanks, I'll start with the voltages and see what we get.
If all is operating correctly should the Minty provide a regulated 5v?

That is correct. If you are not getting 5v from the Minty, then the other measurements may help us to find out why.
