Im using the old minty boost pcb to power a simple bike light from ladyada's tutorials. When i connect the 2 AAs to the minty boost the diode pins on the underside of the board get very hot. Should i try replacing the diode?

you should post a picture of your kit it will make it easy to debug the problem

Is the diode in the correct way? Sounds like it might be creating a short circuit across the batteries.

the minty boost had been working fine before
i even had it power my arduino and everything but now the diode gets hot and shorts the batteries
i just got some maxim ic samples for the booster so maybe i could try replacing the chip

i had it powering a standalone arduino along with 5 leds

without connection to the arduino, check the output voltage
then verify you're connecting gnd to - and vcc to +
try again?
