Solar Boost Bag

Post by brutus »

Hi there

Is it possible to go for a larger solar panel like the product 1525 6V 5.6W https://www.adafruit.com/products/1525 and plug it to the USB / DC / Solar Lithium Ion/Polymer charger - v2 product 390 https://www.adafruit.com/product/390?

Idealy I would like to have even more charging power and instead of one big solar panel, attache two solar panels to the input either with the voltaic M3511 Splitter http://www.voltaicsystems.com/m3511-splitter it will give 6V but more W or with the voltaic 2 or 3 Panel 6V/18V Circuit Box http://www.voltaicsystems.com/3-panel-circuit-box, if I leave the Circuit box to 6V I have the advantage of having a male 5.5x2.1mm that I can plug directly to the USB / DC / Solar Lithium Ion/Polymer charger - v2.

Is it possible?

Many Thanks

Lloyd

You can use more or larger panels with the charger . The max charge current for the battery will still be limited to 1A. But the added solar surface area will give you more power for load-sharing and/or charging power in lower light situations.

Thanks for you answer, I have another question :)

Has some components required 1A to charge max (like the GoPro 4) and some need more like tablets, would it be possible to plug to the USB / DC / Solar Lithium Ion/Polymer charger - v2 product 390 a PowerBoost 500 Basic - 5V USB Boost @ 500mA from 1.8V+ product 1903 https://www.adafruit.com/products/1903 and another power boost like the PowerBoost 1000 Basic - 5V USB Boost @ 1000mA from 1.8V+ product 2030 https://www.adafruit.com/products/2030?

The idea is to connect both power bost to the USB / DC / Solar Lithium Ion/Polymer charger - v2, one to the JST 2-pin LOAD and the other one two the L+ & GND ports on the board (I saw that you use either to connect your power boost in the tutorial)

Like that we have 2 way out, one safe for the GoPro and another one able to charge tablets.

That is possible, but the PowerBoost 1000 would be safe for the GoPro also. The capacity of the charger determines the maximum power available. But the amount of power actually drawn is determined by the load.
