i have a cell phone just sitting here, an old one i still have after cancelling my cell phone service. it's a nokia 6200. it already has transmitting capabilities...would it be possible to hack it, perhaps with software, to make a wave bubble?
it very well might be more trouble than it's worth, but all the necessary circuitry is there, and i've been thinking about it, and was just wondering. perhaps the amount of work would be a nightmare, but if not, how cool would that be?

They are a good source for VCOs, RF power amplifiers, filters, assorted passive components, and an antenna.
The local oscillator VCO frequency can be lowered by adding 1 pF caps to the tank circuit until it hits the frequency band you need. Most phones have a high-side LO, so it works out quite well.
The RF power amplifiers will still give usable gain outside of their intended frequency range. You may have to increase the Vcc or bias voltages.
The duplexer filter acts as a good bandpass filter for cleaning up the output RF signal or keeping it inband.
