lipoly charging, probably a general question

The operation of transmitters designed to jam or block wireless communications is a violation of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended ("Act"). See 47 U.S.C. Sections 301, 302a, 333. The Act prohibits any person from willfully or maliciously interfering with the radio communications of any station licensed or authorized under the Act or operated by the U.S. government. 47 U.S.C. Section 333. The manufacture, importation, sale or offer for sale, including advertising, of devices designed to block or jam wireless transmissions is prohibited. 47 U.S.C. Section 302a(b). Parties in violation of these provisions may be subject to the penalties set out in 47 U.S.C. Sections 501-510. Fines for a first offense can range as high as $11,000 for each violation or imprisonment for up to one year, and the device used may also be seized and forfeited to the U.S. government.

lipoly charging, probably a general question

Post by neutered »

i don't know much about the battery charging (except handwaving that it seems like we're just pushing charge back into the battery), but i was wondering if there is a (convenient) way of monitoring the charging process?

details, the low power pin on the charging ic is inconsistent. there is no output voltage from the proetection circuit but at the actual battery terminals show around 2.8v. when i attach power (via the wall wart connector rather than usb) sometimes the low power pin doesn't drop (and the led stays unlit). the led also doesn't seem to go off (i've taken this to mean that we're continuing to charge).

monitoring the output of the protection circuit seems like it would show me the wall wart voltage (in addition to whatever battery voltage is running). checking teh terminal voltage shows a fully charged battery (or at least ~4v which seems 'as per spec').

anyway, i'm just looking for a hint of what might be going wrong. (ie, i've misread the datasheet for how the LV# works or maybe how the protection circuit works or really anything).
