I had problems connecting with my parallel dongle, it checked out using the software test, the board looked OK, but I could not connect. It turned out my cable had one end flipped:
Rather than mess with the cable I flipped one of the plugs (header).
After flipping the plug the SpokePOV connected fine. Caveat maker!

!! thats is annoying. we have the cables made. they're almost always OK
you can clip a piece of the plastic out of the connector, that will make things easy for now

I just wish I noticed it earlier. Of course I checked misassembly or poor soldering on my part first, then tried a second computer, then the forum, etc. That's why I posted, to give the next person the suggestion to check it.
