Hey all.
I got / installed my SpokePOV recently. The system responds properly to the hard reset - all LEDs cycle in order, both sides.
The problem is that I can't get the hall effect sensor to respond at all. I can occasionally get the sensor to respond to a magnet, but it'll only flicker to a lower LED. It'll never display images, or turn more than one LED on per side at a time.
Is there a chance my sensor is bad / mis-soldered? Anyone know what pins I can check with a multimeter to see if it's behaving itself?
Hall Effect Sensor Not Responding?

Yeah, I uploaded an image, though to my knowledge the EEPRom came with an image of it being "FULL" / all on.
I'm going to have one of the engineers look at it at work on Monday. Perhaps they can troubleshoot it. I'll post results, in case anyone else ends up with this problem.

Great project!
Hi Ladyada!
First this is a grat project.
I have almost the same problem with hall effect.
I built the project from web site.using Tiny2313/20,25lc080.software downloaded, picture downloaded(veryfied),after reset see the led test, sensor responses to magnet,i can see the picture in very slow rotation (0.5-1s-round),but when the rotation goes to higher the pov shuts off.no leds,i have to slow down the rotation to see something.I verified the sensor output with scope, everythings fine with it.
I checked all many times software veryfied too.
looks like the software not able to follow the hall sensor, but i think thats not the problem..
Is there any suggestions Ladyada?

if you have an aluminium bike, doublesided foam sticky tapepovpro wrote:enterskull -
It might be that at higher RPMs your wheel is vibrating just enough so that
the magnet doesn't trigger the sensor. I had the same issue. Finding
a way to secure the magnet for reliable sensing has been problematic
for me.
but with a steel bike ive never had a problem!

I found it!!!!!
I just needet tu run from command line "make burn-fuses" !!!
This is where i found it http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/richb? ... ing_part_5
Ladyada, it would be nice to insert this info about fuses in your homepage i think
Thanks!

Hello, I have had both these problems (and several others) at one time or another. It is very odd and have now decided to post after 6 hours of googling and trying ideas from the forum.
Timeline: I ordered the kit at the beginning of summer.
First problem: Not all LEDs lit during cold-start
Fix - missed soldering several resistor network pins
(thanks for the pronto response to my email)
After I finally get ahold of a neodymium magnet from an old physics prof. I give the project a go again
2nd problem: after uploading a pic and getting pov mounted on wheel. I spin up wheel, after images is whole
if wheel spins too fast, spokePOV goes into standby... once it slows down, goes thru startup routine then goes back to displaying image.
i'm assuming this is a loose battery or has to do w/ AA clips on board
problem 3(what makes me want to pull my hair out): after leaving for the weekend i come back and hall effect sensor detects nothing... hmmm... so i connect up to my computer using the serial dongle, and now I get IO ERROR: Died at address 0
LEDs do light up upon pressing the verify and read buttons on the spokePOV program

more info on previous post
I resoldered the hall effect sensor - Now, after a cold boot (w/ batteries out for more than a few mins) I can use my magnet to trigger the hall effect sensor. It will not continue to blink, though, even with continual pulses from the magnet.... once again strange behavior, and of course this did not solve my pySpokePOV IO ERROR problem either
