Automobile project Request for design / info

Post by Ima »

First, I'll reference another post. I created my own because the topic was not descriptive and I believe there will be few replies:
This was similar to one of my questions. To paraphrase, for my situation,
Can this be used on automotive rims? I have a vehicle with cast rims - there are small openings in the cast. Ultimately, I would like to be able to use a magnetic pickup so the board need not be mounted inside the rim in order to connect the LEDs. If not possible, then I'll just put the board inside the rim - centrifugal force will help keep it there when mounted with double sided tape (like balancing weights.)

Thanks in advance!

I can think of a couple of limitations...

First, the centrifugal forces imposed by being attached to a car rim at
highway speeds are going to be a LOT higher than on a bicycle rim.
You definitely don't want the thing breaking off and flying through the air.

Second, the weight of the SpokePOV is going to throw the balance of your
wheels off, unless you add balancing weights to counteract it. Again, this
effect will be much larger at the speeds a car can reach than at bicycle
speeds.

BALANCE never occurred to me. Funny, since I even mentioned balancing weights...
