I bought a 100 RGB LEDs on e-bay, and did a new set of boards with enough '595's to drive them. Rewrote the firmware to drive them, and wrote Matlab programs to generate the color separated data files.

Point worth mentioning, the LEDs duty factor is reduced as you move in from the outer LEDs to the inner. The LEDs near the hub travel a shorter distance and would otherwise be much brighter than those further out on the wheel. Goes from 100% (near rim) down to something like 20% near hub. The allows for an even illumination across the image. Your eye doesn't notice so much but makes it easy to photograph without glare in the middle and saves battery power to boot.

I'll be doing some of my own RGB fun very soon in a different project, but damn man. Wow. I can't compare to your expertise. You seem to have taken us to SpokePOV 2.0

And I want in.

Wow! That's pretty darn impressive! Will you be planning on releasing the boards/firmware etc? Again, great job!!!
