TTL Serial Camera doesn't seem to be getting power

I am having the same problem with this TTL serial camera. The pictures below show the setup that I have tested with the exact same model of the camera of a friend, which worked just fine. My camera however produces a jagged looking, distorted black and white picture.

to clarify, is that camera you are testing from Adafruit or from a friend?

Are you using a PAL or NTSC television?

The camera that is shown in the picture and that is not working is my own camera (from Adafruit). I just used my friends camera to test the setup and compare the image quality. I have tried both PAL and NTSC and fed it into my laptop with the following product from Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/EasyCAP-DC60-Crea ... B002H3BSCM). Both formats resulted in the same image quality.

have you tried using the photography functions?
can you take a screencap of what the image looks like? have you tried also a plain TV?

I have not tried the photography functions yet, nor have I used the camera with a TV. This is how the camera image looks like:

You photo looks as if there is ripple from the power supply.

The power is supplied through the regulated 5V output from an Arduino Uno. I have checked the voltage output with an oscilloscope and there is no noticable ripple. Also the exact same setup worked with the exact same camera from a friend.

If the oscilloscope is not showing it then that blows the ripple theory.

Since the setup worked OK with a different camera then the problem seems to be in the existing camera.
