Drawdio doesnt work at all (((

Postby Pukikyo » Sat May 26, 2012 12:10 pm

Hi, i needed drawdio to prototype some ideas in a design project, in product design that is, i didn't know it would come in non assembled form, so i had to buy soldering iron just to join it, last time i solder something was around 17 years ago so i am not sure if i killed it in the progress or not but it doesnt work.

the only think i can tell is that a) i checked tens of times - all components are positioned correctly and are in their places. b) speaker seems to work since if i directly connect it to the battery it makes small cracking noises. if i move the contacts. c) with a fresh battery there is still no sound or even crackings from drawcord but the board under chip (555 timer chip) gets quite hot.

any suggestions? i needed it fast and ordered with delivery costing more than the kit itself ((( I am in MIlan, Italy.

Hi there,

If you can post a clear photo of both sides of the board, we'll take a look at the soldering. It might also be a component installed backwards.

I was really stupid enough to solder it all and only then test :X i first solder the speaker directly but then deiced to try with wires thus it looks so messy.

Hi Pukikyo,

As Pburgess said, your solder joints could use some touch-up.
Also, check that the 555 is installed correctly. It has a small notch on the top, at one end. Position the 555 so that the notch is over the ½-circle printed on the white silk-screen under the 555.
555's are pretty rugged. They sometimes still work after being installed backward, un-soldered and re-installed.
You may get lucky.
