Ultimate GPS - LOCUS Running without MicroController + Arduino Nano Support

Postby MCHobby » Mon May 28, 2012 6:04 am

Running Locus without Microcontroller (Not "starting" but "continue running")
I know that an microcontroller is needed to start the LOCUS (eg: an Arduino Uno) and to read the LOCUS data.
That's perfect.

Do we still need to keep the bearkout board on the MicroController once the LOCUS is started ?
Would it be possible to CONTINUE the LOCUS operations without the microcontroller attached to the Ultimate GPS breakout board?
That would be really great... because the "Ultimate GPS" would be a very small tracking device.

AdaFruit GPS Library compatibility with Arduino Nano V3.0
Is the library compatible with Arduino Nano V3.0?
Any issue reported?

Thank,
Dominique

As long as you keep the GPS module powered, you should be able to run detached from the micro. I'm not aware of any issues running it with the Nano. It is an Atmega 328 processor, so the library should be compatible.

you could probably start it with an ftdi cable or dongle or an xbee. seems like a radio would be good if you wanted to track something surreptitiously since you could access the data without having to physically access the device.
