TTL Serial Camera Corrupted JPEGS?

Postby cldutton » Sun Jun 03, 2012 8:42 pm

Hi,

I have a minor problem. I have the weatherproof serial TTL camera hooked up to an Arduino. Everything seems to work fine except I can't get any good pictures from it using the tutorial and code provided on this site. All of the pictures look corrupted - see attachment. Any picture after the first picture will not even register in an image program. The first picture taken always comes up as a JPEG.

I've been exploring this issue for several weeks and have found multiple comments from other sites. I'm just now sitting down to try and finally resolve this issue. I am able to take pictures utilizing the VC0706 CommTool. All of the code runs fine and compiles properly. I can watch the serial monitor and see when motion is detected and pictures are taken. Pictures then have a normal file size. But, every picture is corrupted. I've tried it at several baud rates and several file sizes.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I've seen this happen on occasion, but never so pronounced. How long are the cables between Arduino and camera, and is there anything in the vicinity that you think might be a source of interference?

You might want to try using the Arduino's hardware serial port rather than SoftwareSerial, as it's generally a bit more robust. There's some information on this in the Internet of Things Camera tutorial. Downside is that your sketch can't use the serial port for other things. But worth a try.
