I recently purchased the large push-pull solenoid (id #413) from Adafruit. I have been unable to make it work. I breadboarded the suggested circuit to drive the solenoid with Arduino but couldn't get it to work. For the purpose of testing whether the solenoid is functioning should I not be able to drive it directly from a power supply. I connected it directly to a power supply that puts out about 16V with my multimeter in line to measure the current. It was draswing around 250 to 260 mA but there was no action from the solenoid whatsoever.
I'm a newbie. Not sure if I have a bad solenoid or what.

Can you move the solenoid plunger with your fingers?

Do you feel even the slightest twitch when applying power?
Measure the resistance between the red & black leads.

I identified the problem as a bad connection to my power supply. Working fine now. Sorry for the trouble.
