Cannot pair EZ-link to macbook

Post by paultravers »

I have been trying to pair a Bluefruit EZlink to my Macbook Pro but I consistently get the message that pairing has failed. I have tried this now with two separate MacBooks, which do pair to other devices.

I soldered the JST connector to the back of the EZ-link and powered it from a LiPo, the red light flashes once a second or thereabouts and every now and again flashes at about 2 or 3 times a second. The Bluetooth preferences pane only ever shows the device MAC and never e.g." Adafruit EZlink xxxx"

Pressing the pairing button doesn't change anything.

Any suggestions as to what I can do to make this work?

Paul

Hi .. the replacement EZ-Link arrived (thanks for that guys!) and pairs with the Mac just fine. However, I have another problem in that when I test it as per the online tutorial, it passes the loopback test but fails the DTR/DSR test. I have used both CoolTerm and Serial Tools on the mac, and X-CTU running under Crossover. Asserting DTR doesn't change the DSR indicator. Is there another way I can test this? I would really like to be able to reprogram an arduino using this and at the moment while I can send serial communications over bluetooth, it fails when I try to reprogram.

The pin soldering looks ok .. if a tad uneven

Actually, my EZ-LInk fails the DTR loopback test as well, but it still will upload to my arduino. What are the exact problem,s you're seeing with the upload?

I am having the same issue. I tried to pair the Bluefruit EZ-Link to 2 Windows computers and even an iMac. It finds the device but it has an issue with pairing. I bought the device on January 30th, 2014.

Rick,

the error I get is 'avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding'. If I then plug in the USB cable I can program the Uno just fine.

The EZ-Link does work for serial communication, and I have checked that I have the cap the right way round
(Uno -> reset -> cap(+)->cap(-)->DTR pin)

I can see the TX led flicker briefly during the attempt to reprogram.

@PaulTravers: Do you have another computer you can try this with?

I do have another mac, and I did try it and - mirabile dictu! - it worked just fine. Of course it leaves me with a different problem .. but the mac that doesn't do it is older and can be a bit flaky at times so I should probably get it some professional help.

Thanks for your suggestion
