I purchased an i2c / SPC character LCD backpack which I assembled this weekend. After soldering everything together, I placed my LCD on the backpack, screwed in 4 jumper wires and uploaded the HelloWorld iC2 sketch from Ada's github library (including the updated Adafruit LiquidCrystal library). When I ran the sketch, nothing happened on the LCD. I see a row of completely shaded boxes, but no text. I know the LCD works as I've connected it on a breadboard with all the pins, and everything works well. I also tried moving the contrast screw that is on the backpack, but that didn't change anything. If I hold the LCD at an angle I can see a few garbled characters flashing on and off (occasionally). I've attached a picture of both the front and back of the backpack for you to inspect.
Thanks for the help....
John

I think you may have it connected backwards. The side with screw terminals should be by pin 1 of LCD.

I got it working off of your suggestion. The top row of my LCD was broken off from a previous experiment, so I had to use the bottom strip. I was overthinking the solution and placed female headers on the backpack trying to be clever. I actually had everything backwards. I just had to reverse everything to get it working.
Thanks for the help...

Great! Glad it's working.
I think we've all been there a few times.I was overthinking the solution...
