MCR Barcode Scanner

Hi,

I received my USB MCR Barcode Scanner yesterday, when I plug it into a USB port it alerts two short bursts of beeps. I then push the button to scan something and the scanning light remains lit for about a second and then goes out, is there some configuration that needs to be done to make it actually scan something?

What kind of computer are you using it with? It should just work. The reader appears to be a keyboard to your computer, so simply open a text editor window to see the data.

I'm plugging it into a MacBook Air and have my cursor within TextMate. I also tried it using a USB shield & my Arduino but haven't had any success getting it to even recognize a barcode on several products. It looks like it might be a similar issue as what was had in this thread:

The laser should flash normally. Does it do that?
Does the scanner show up in System report, under USB?
How far away from the barcode are you holding the scanner? About 6 inches is optimal.

The scanner doesn't flash, it only lights up temporarily when I push the button on the top.
It shows in my system report as "Composite Device"
I've tried a bunch of UPC's at varying degrees of distance, but I haven't gotten it to recognize anything. Usually the red light goes out while I'm trying to get it to scan.

hi
i was trying to post my question on the forum but couldn't find where..
My problem is that i want to strip the last trailing character from a barcode but i cant find
the right configuration in the manual

ex ) barcode : 123456789124 output "12345678912"
: 9876414561561 output "987641456156"

Thx for the reply but what you are trying to say is that the MCR can't be configured this way ?

hey i bought two mcr 12 , one is working fine but the second one , when i use the option "auto sense" the mcr 12 is always on like its always sensing
