Hey Bill,
I intend to use two Adafruit 6 cell AA battery packs to power a small robot. However, before building the robot I am building a combo variable power supply / battery charger to refuel the bot and power up breadboards, etc.
With that in mind, can you suggest a male/female plug arrangement where say, the female plug can be soldered to a Perma-proto board located on the bot and the male mate with free end leads that can be connected to binding posts on the front of the charger?
In my dream world I would be able to easily extend the length of the leads going from the bot to the charger to facilitate charging the bot's battery packs.

The 2-pin JST connectors we use on our battery packs and chargers would be a good choice.
We have switched and unswitched breakouts as well as bare connectors. These are the same as what we put on our chargers and processors like the Trinket:

If you are going to be attaching and removing the power connector more frequently, I tend to like the 2.1mm power connector better:
