Possibly dead FadeCandy?

Post by slugsie »

I just bought a FadeCandy from CoolComponents here in the UK. Unfortunately it seems to be DOA. I wired it up to an Adafruit 60 neopixel string, plugged a 4amp power supply to the string, then the FadeCandy into my PC. Nothing happened. Windows 7 x64 didn't show any signs of detecting a new device, and the FCServer doesn't detect it. I've tried another PC with the same result.

I wired Yellow from the Neopixels to line 0 -ve, and Green to +ve on the FadeCandy.

Is the FadeCandy faulty? Did I break something? Can it be recovered?

Could you post clear pictures of your board and the connections to it?

Unfortunately I have already de-soldered the connections to the board. I did however check that there were no shorts, or incorrect power coming down the data/signal wires beforehand. The strand of Neopixels is also known to work just fine as I had them wired to a Trinket before now.

Here are a couple of pictures of the board as it currently stands.

Does the Fadecandy board show up in the Devices and Printers control panel at all, even in the "Unspecified" section? If not, then DOA is a possibility.

No, Windows doesn't show any signs of having seen the FadeCandy being plugged in.

I am now awaiting a response from CoolComponents to see if they have any ideas, or to get an RMA. Pity I bought their last one, so I'll have to wait for a restock.
