Powerboost 1000 Basic: Soldering the JST connector

Post by liquidlogic »

I purchased the Powerboost 1000 and soldered the USB connector very quickly, but then I ran into trouble with the JST connector provided. I have two questions:

1. Any tips on how to solder it? It doesn't have any nice through-holes to stabilize it while soldering. I'm thinking I may use hot glue to (temporarily) hold it in place while I solder.

2. Do the metal pads on the bottom side of the JST connector have to be soldered in as well?

Many thanks!

Hot glue or tape should work. I like to use a small clamp or alligator clip. Soldering the tabs on the side is highly recommended. It will stabilize and strengthen the connection to the board.
