MAX98306 power consumption

Post by SFR75 »

Hello,

I'm building a small VR unit and I need a small amplifier for built-in speakers.

http://www.adafruit.com/product/987

I was thinking about using MAX98306, but I'm not sure I read spec file correctly
regarding power consumption. Is it 20mA ? or 2mA ? or 800mA ? ;-)

Thanks,
M

When you shut the chip down, it consumes 10uA.

When it's turned on but not driving speakers, it uses 2mA.

When it's driving speakers, it wants up to 740mA for an 3 ohm speaker (3.7W), or 340mA for an 8 ohm speaker (1.7W). That's an upper limit though, and you probably wouldn't want that kind of volume right next to your head.

Hello,

Thank you much for your answer.
So if I power a pair of 20mm 0.5W 8ohm speakers, should I expect around 100mAh ?

A pair of 8-ohm speakers operating in parallel have a combined impedance of 4 ohms. They'd draw about 700mA.
