Micro Lipo w/MicroUSB Jack - USB LiIon/LiPoly charger - v1

Post by jshaleiv »

Hey, I'm working on a project that involves charging a smallish lithium battery from your store. Two questions about this charger:

1) Would it be possible to safely share the load between a charging battery and a microcontroller, using this charger?
2) Is this charger safely compatible with a 6V 2W solar panel?

Thanks

You can connect your load in parallel - as long as its current demands don't exceed the max charge current (500mA by default).
That charger is not optimized for solar sources. It will sort of work, but only under ideal (i.e. full sun) conditions, and not so efficiently. We do have a solar charger designed for the purpose. https://www.adafruit.com/products/390

thanks for the quick reply. What's the difference between the two chargers that will allow one to work better than the other (with a solar panel)?

There is a thorough explanation of that in the Design Notes here: https://learn.adafruit.com/usb-dc-and-s ... sign-notes
