Hi, there I just bought the ultimate GPS set and I am having some problems when both wiring directly to the computer and via Arduino…the classic board.
When direct wiring to the computer, I have uploaded a blank sketch (I don’t think there is a problem at this point since other sketches are working just fine). After the upload, the LED is on. I have then connected the GPS chip per the instructions…so VIN to 5V, GND to GND, Tx to Tx and Rx to Rx…I then opened the serial monitor which is set to 9600 baud. But the serial monitor is showing nothing.
I also wired via the Arduino. I imported the Adafruit GPS library without any issues. Uploaded the echo sketch…on the Serial monitor I got the AdaFruit welcome message, but no data…
I am very new at this, so any advice would be very much appreciated.

Re: Ultimate GPS
Please post clear, detailed pictures of both sides of the GPS, showing your soldering and wiring

Re: Ultimate GPS
@HaroonHassan: I don't see any soldering. Have you actually soldered the header pins? Just pinning the module to a breadboard like that won't work.

Soldering tutorial is here:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-gui ... ring/tools
Can't really do anything with it unless you solder the connections.

Re: Ultimate GPS
ok so managed to solder the chip, and data coming thru...but i uploaded the parsing sketch from the gps library, and chunks like the following are returned:
Time: 0:15:46.398
Date: 6/1/2080
Fix: 0 quality: 0
$PGTOP,11,2*6E
$GPGGA,001547.399,,,,,0,00,,,M,,M,,*7C
$GPRMC,001547.399,V,,,,,0.00,0.00,060180,,,N*46
$PGTOP,11,2*6E
$GPGGA,001548.399,,,,,0,00,,,M,,M,,*73
$GPRMC,001548.399,V,,,,,0.00,0.00,060180,,,N*49
except for the first three lines the rest doesn't make sense...shouldn't the heading at least make sense?
pls help thanks

Re: Ultimate GPS
Those are called NMEA 1083 sentences and that is what a GPS returns all the rest is derived from that info.
