Usbtiny version 2 on Vista not working

Post by Choba »

Hello, I have a problem. The green light is burning, but Vista (64bit) gives an error during installing, Code 39.

I used v1.12 of driver. I also tried to remove the 'check signed driver' thing, with a cmd command. I have USBtinyISP v2.0.

In Dutch:
Kan het apparaatstuurprogramma voor dit apparaat niet in het geheugen laden. Mogelijk is het stuurprogramma beschadigd of het ontbreekt. (Code 39)
Okay, so I still hooked a target board on it, with the attiny13 and a led (with resistor). I also found code for flashing led. But I think that is not problem. I think Vista is being annoying. Avrdude gives me also this error:

Help?

To get the USBTinyISP to work in Vista 64 I had to reboot, press F8 for the boot menu (like for safe mode), and select the option to disable signed driver enforcement. There are apps that are supposed to duplicate that functionality without rebooting, but I couldn't get any of them to work.

Thanks for the quick answer, that got rid of the error. :D Does this mean than whenever I want to use the USBtinyISP I have to select that option during booting?

I also got a new error. The one also mentioned on the documentation pages. The error is with rc=-1. I know this is with the connection/cables.

I tried to solve it, but don't know how. This might sound silly/stupid, but I don't get how the 6 pin header works.

I found this image (its from evilmadscientist):

But I don't get how that works for the 6 pin header. Is it from above? From bottom? ....

I made a new image, could you tell me what the 6 pins are?

Can't we just get a signed driver instead? I think it is free.

Well, you can sign the driver yourself using this procedure:

http://www.minasi.com/newsletters/nws0903.htm

But you need Microsoft to cross sign it so others can used it (so it is trusted and that does cost money)...

You can still install it on other machines without the microsoft cross signature, but you have to put your computer in a test mode - it is described in the included link.

There was something with open source being free.

because you do not have to restart your computer _every_ time you want to use the programmer. We share our computer here at our house, so rebooting is a pain...
