HELP! USBTiny, ArduinoBBB from ModernDevice, MacOS. [SOLVED!]

Postby enhering » Tue Jun 05, 2012 4:22 pm

Hi. I bought an USBTiny programmer from adafruit many months ago, assembled it and never turned it on, until now.

I'm running it on MacOS Lion. I have an BBB board, rev D, from ModernDevice. It works well with the Arduino IDE connected to my notebook via USB-BUB, also from ModernDevice.

When I try the programmer, as expected, green led only turns on after first run of avrdude. Red led blinks as programmer tries to program the 328P on ModernDevice board, but I get the following result.

All the solder points of the programmer were double checked.

ENHering:mcu enhering$ avrdude -c usbtiny -p atmega328p -v

avrdude done. Thank you.

ENHering:mcu enhering$

This is the same result as if I had the programmer cable unplugged from the Arduino board.

If I fallback to Arduino IDE and ModernDevice BUB USB to serial connection, the board accepts programming.

A similar result is obtained if I try to upload 'using programmer' on the Arduino IDE.

Do you think you can help me?

One more fact:

If I upload a program using Arduino IDE, which flashes LEDs, I see them flashing.
If, after that, I try to use the programmer in the conditions stated in my last post, I see the Arduino board is reset by it.

Again: when I try the command on the above post, the arduino board is reset. After a few seconds it restarts flashing the LEDs, but avrdude complains as described above.

SOLVED!

Postby enhering » Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:39 pm

Hi.

I finally solved this problem by shorting R4 and R7 resistors, as suggested by the USBtinyISP solder manual.

I hope this helps other people with similar problems.
