USBTINYISP programmer with ATMEGA328-PU

Post by wtrader1 »

Hi,

I just recieved my USBTINY kit rev 2.0 from adafruit. Assambled it together. Also recieved a BAREBONES AVR DEV. BOARD kit. Soldered that also!
With the Dev board there was a Atmega328-PU chip coming. I also ordened an 16MHZ crystal from adafruit site. Now when i try to use the chip i get the following error:

C:\Users\BANNED>avrdude -c usbtiny -p m328p

avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check.

avrdude done. Thank you.

What am i doing wrong, Photo's Attached from the soldering and the chips:

That ATmega328 is preprogrammed with the Arduino bootloader. It has also been programmed to expect an external crystal. You will need to add a crystal to your barebones dev board.
