Hi,
I'm using windows 8 and I can't seem to install the driver for USBtinyISP.
In the device manager it shows as unknown device.
I tried to update the driver and by manually selecting the folder of that contains usbtiny_signed_8, but it didn't work.
I've also tried to uninstall the driver without removing the USB.
Then I tried to scan for new hardware, but it still didn't work.
Could someone please help me.

Out of curiosity, have you came across this yet?

Hi,
Yes I did. I downloaded the driver from that link.
I tried the same method on windows 7 32 bit and it worked just fine.

Are you using a USB 2.0 port on the win8 computer?

Re: USBtinyISP cannot be recognized in windows 8
It's so frustrating.
Since I couldn't connect it to windows 8 PC, I did experiment with windows 7 32bit PC.
I was experimenting with 8x8 matrix LED.
I tried the Space Invader tutorial https://learn.adafruit.com/trinket-slas ... er-pendant
After I uploaded the sketch, it worked fine.
The LED is programmed to turn off after 3 cycle of animation.
We can repeat it by pressing the built-in reset button.
So I played with it for a few rounds.
After a few minutes, I tried to upload a new sketch.
But this time the computer showed that USB device is not recognized.
I used the same PC with the same USB port.
I went to device manager, but I couldn't see the trinket device.
Is it possible that my trinket has a problem?

Re: USBtinyISP cannot be recognized in windows 8
i have a similar problem all of a sudden. My USBTinyISP was working on windows 7 64bit and for the last 2 days i have been pulling my hair out trying to work out what is wrong. The only thing i can remember doing is adding JAVA to my machine.
Anyone got any idea why it would stop working other than something else has my port? I have been trawling google - even found a got fix from microsoft - does not apply to my chipset!

efifi try removing and re-installing the drivers. Sometimes windows software installs write things that they need without regard to what else may be using those files.

Re: USBtinyISP cannot be recognized in windows 8
thanks admin - i have uninstalled and deleted the driver, and the arduino software. reinstalled both and reloaded with the usbtinyisp drivers ver 1.2.1.0. interestingly the 64bit version unzips to a 32 bit version. i tried both. rebooted in between all these steps. now i just leave it and come back every now and again and try something else.
fortunately the pc next to me works perfectly - its a 32 bit win7 machine.
but my machine worked and now it does not. i have stopped almost all the system services to see if something is grabbing it. no luck.
any other suggestions would be great
thanks

Re: USBtinyISP cannot be recognized in windows 8
heres what i have now tried
As per the thread on finding COM ports, i did this - From CMD type in set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 (which is the magic command to show ghost devices) followed by start devmgmt.msc (which starts up the device manager).
I discovered COM3 that was defined but not being seen by the ARDUINO SDK. So i deleted it!
I then tried a few other things to no avail so i reloaded the 64 bit drivers just in case and the AVRDUDE software.
When running AVRDUDE i can see the USBtinyISP. But i am not seeing a port. COM3 does not reappear....
When running AVRDUDE the light flashes on the USBTinyisp and it reads the chip signatures and reports fuses ok.
so far so good - but now how to get it to appear as a COM port to program via the Arduino SDK?
thanks for any ideas..... i bet it will be something really simple in the end.... like a jumper? but i still go back to the other pc - it works.

Re: USBtinyISP cannot be recognized in windows 8
Any thoughts about this - i have not loaded it on the other PC
http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/page ... ivers.aspx
Its the Virtual com port driver for CP210X USB to UART Bridge - but if i remove the device it should not affect the USBtiny ISP - especially since i have removed and readded the USBTinyISP software since the CP201x install.
Could this interfere with the USBTinyISP com port mapper?
I guess i could load it on my other PC and see if it fails.... then there is no guarantee i can back it out! and if i remove it from here, i might struggle to get it going again... decisions decisions
thoughts please

Re: USBtinyISP cannot be recognized in windows 8
- USBtinyISP - can read and write using AVRDUDE but no COM port assignment
- same with AVRISP mk2
- CP210x is working fine
I have edited registry to look for anything odd, removed JUNGO - according to everything i can read.about it
still no joy.....
its become a mission

Re: USBtinyISP cannot be recognized in windows 8
As far as I know the USBTinyISP does not show up as a com port. It is a programmer and shows up in the LibUSB group on windows. Have you read this yet? https://learn.adafruit.com/usbtinyisp/drivers

Re: USBtinyISP cannot be recognized in windows 8
yes thanks i have been thru that - turns out you are right it works just fine - what was i thinking! talk about getting stuck in a loop.
Now the USBTinyISP works, but not the AVR MK2 - probably just needs some focus.
thanks
