I know my setup is good as I can talk to my previous arduino gemmas (Yes the teal ones), I just got a new batch and I get the
avrdude: Error: Could not find USBtiny device (0x2341/0xc9f)'
error when trying to upload to them. When I say them, I actually cut one that was not working and soldered in another brand new one and they both get the same error.
I am in bootloader mode, the red light is blinking, no dice.

Please help!

This problem has been a real hassle for me, I have to keep track of what gemmas are arduino or adafruit which is already a pain. The adafruit versions seem to always give me a headache when Im trying to connect to them. It would be so much better if I could support only one style like i intended.

Can I exchange these improperly programmed gemmas for what I actually ordered and paid for?
