Starter Pack: Programmer is not Responding
I got a starter pack and just tried to get it running today with the tutorials. I opened the blink example sketch and tried to upload but I got this error message "avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding". I have installed the driver (and restarted) and selected my board type. I'm not sure which port I'm using but I have have tried uploading with each one selected. I use mac os 10.5.8. Currently, the board has a green light and a blinking orange light but I have never successfully uploaded a sketch. Help is greatly appreciated!

Have you selected the right COM port?

Is the COM port separate from the serial port? If so, where do I change the COM port? If not, I have tried all of them and none have worked.

Re: Starter Pack: Programmer is not Responding
It's been a while since I installed it on a mac. But as I recall, I had to unplug and re-plug the usb cable and re-start the IDE after installing the driver. Otherwise it would not recognize the Arduino.
The Arduino actually shows up as 2 ports. They have a rather long name that includes 'usb' and 'serial' as I recall.
If you don't get it running before then, I can chack the mac later this afternoon for the exact name.

I have restarted and unplugged after installing the driver. None of the ports listed have usb or serial in the name.

Do you notice any difference in the list contents when you plug or unplug the Arduino?

No. Also, all the port names have bluetooth in them.

Re: Starter Pack: Programmer is not Responding
Sounds like the device driver was not installed successfully. The Arduino USB/Serial port names should be of the form: /dev/tty.usbserial-BANNED
