Uno not powering up

Post by bdolge »

I received an ardx arduino experimenters kit (arduino uno and kool toys)
for Christmas. It worked fine and I spent part of a
day on 4 projects. This morning when I went to download a new program to
the processor I got a port not found error before I noticed that the green
power led was not on. I restarted my Imac and tried plugging the usb cord
into my ibook, but the arduino never showed. My ipod turns up fine on the
same usb port. I plugged the 9 volt battery power supply in and the power
light came on I tried connecting again via usb and no luck. Then I noticed
that the power light was off again and the battery was very warm.
Unplugging and replugging the battery results in the power led coming on for
about a minute before turning off. I assume this is the arduino/power
system protecting itself. Is there anything else I should try?

Is there anything else connected to the Arduino?
Try just the Arduino via USB with no battery and nothing else connected.

Imac>USB>uno was my original setup that stopped working. I tried adding the battery power after trying several usb ports on several computers with no green led.

So, with USB power alone, the led does not come on. With battery power, it comes on for a short time and the battery gets warm?

Sounds like something is shorted. Are you sure that the back of the Arduino is not touching anything conductive?

Playing around some more I found that disconnecting my circuit brought Uno back to life, so looks like I have a different problem now, thanks, and sorry to waste your time
