Problem with servo in CIRC-04 project

Post by jmcurran »

Hi,

I was trying to make the project CIRC-04 which demonstrates the servo, but I think there is a problem with my servo. I can't turn it at all by hand. When I make the circuit all that happens is that the servo (SG92R) gets really hot.

I have attached a picture of my layout.

Starting at the bottom right my circuit is as follows:

Pin 24 + rail: red wire to +5v
Pin 24 - rail: black wire to GND
Pin 6 + rail: red wire to 6a
Pin 6 - rail: black wire to 5b
Pin 7a: Blue wire to digital output 9
Pin 5e-7e: three pin connector to servo with brown at the top

The reason I think it might be my servo and not me, is that I read in the forums that you should be able to turn the servo by hand

I have attached a picture of my board

The servo should turn by hand (with some resistance) when it is not powered. From the symptoms you describe, I suspect that the gear-train is jammed somehow which is causing the motor to overheat. if you contact [email protected] with a link to this thread, we can replace the servo for you.
