Level Shifting Uno's 5 V to I2C's 3.3 V

Post by JWTrexler »

You have a product (TXB0108) that is bidirectional. The webpage for this product suggests it to be an alternative for the CD4050 and 74LVC245 when bidirectional communication is needed. Since I2C is always bidirectional, could you please explain why the 4050 supposedly even works for some I2C applications and what type of applications the 4050 would not work. Thank you.

According to the product page
we like using 4050/74LVX245 series and similar logic to perform proper level shifting. Only problem is that they are only good in one direction which can be a problem for some specialty bi-diectional interfaces
