I2C LCD Backpack. Fomat / protocol needed

I'm talking to my i2c LCD backpack with my BBB and plan to use c program.
Where can I find the instruction set to speak to the LCD?

You can check out the library for the Arduino to see what is sent to the LCD to control it then port that to your c code.

Thank you for that. I will now go looking for the library. But in case I don't find it, would you please post a pointer to where I might find this library?
